Ghana is home – Naana Opoku-Agyemang appeals to diaspora parents

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has appealed to Ghanaian parents living abroad to inspire their children with a positive image of Ghana, emphasizing that national identity and belonging should be nurtured across generations.

Addressing members of the Ghanaian community in Belgium during her recent visit to Brussels, she encouraged the diaspora to maintain strong ties with home while contributing to national development.

“I advised parents not to portray Ghana as a deterrent to children abroad,” she said. “Rather, they should present it as a home where everyone belongs.”

She also urged the youth to remain disciplined and think beyond short-term gains.

“I called on the youth to maintain discipline and think long-term,” she stressed. “Every action has consequences.”

Touching on labor migration, the Vice President noted that the export of Ghanaian labor reflects the quality of the country’s human resource, but insisted that migrant workers must be treated with dignity and fairness.

“Ghanaian workers who travel abroad must be protected and treated with respect,” she said.

Dr. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the Adwumawura Programme and the 24-Hour Economy Policy, designed to create employment both locally and for Ghanaians abroad wishing to return home.

“Together, we can build a Ghana that offers opportunities, fairness, and dignity,” she affirmed.
