Ghana, Norway sign political consultations agreement to boost cooperation

Ghana has formalized a new chapter in its diplomatic ties with Norway after the two countries signed a Political Consultations Agreement on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the development in a Facebook post, describing it as a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations.

“Yesterday, in the margins of the UN General Assembly, Ghana and Norway signed a Political Consultations Agreement to elevate our bilateral relations,” he wrote.

According to Ablakwa, the agreement lays the foundation for deeper collaboration in a wide range of sectors.

“Ghana and Norway will now deepen our cooperation in oil and gas, trade facilitation, educational opportunities, agribusiness, AI, maritime security, blue economy and intelligence sharing,” he said.

The minister praised his Norwegian counterpart for his commitment to the process.

“I commend Hon. Åsmund Grøver Aukrust, Norway’s Minister of International Development, for working exceptionally hard with my incredible team to make this possible,” Ablakwa added.

He further noted that both countries have pledged to play a stronger role in promoting global sustainability.

“Our two leaders commit to providing global leadership as we spearhead the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy,” he emphasized.

Concluding his statement, Ablakwa expressed optimism about the future of Ghana-Norway ties.

“Great times for Ghana 🇬🇭 Norway 🇳🇴 relations,” he wrote.
