Ghana Police interdicts five officers over misuse of uniform on social media

The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has interdicted five of its personnel for acts of misconduct linked to the unauthorised use of the police uniform on social media platforms.
The move, announced in a press release dated December 16, 2025, was signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah on behalf of the Director-General of Public Affairs.
The officers, whose ranks range from sergeant to constable, have been temporarily relieved of their duties but remain members of the service and subject to disciplinary regulations.
During the period of interdiction, they are typically entitled to a portion of their salary.
The Ghana Police Service has referred the personnel to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for further investigation and appropriate disciplinary action.
The PPSB, the dedicated unit overseeing professional standards, handles complaints from the public and investigates police corruption and misconduct.
Although the release did not detail the specific misconduct, it highlighted the breach involved the unauthorised public display of police uniforms, a violation of the service’s internal guidelines regarding public representation.
The interdictions reflect the service’s commitment to enforcing professionalism and accountability across its ranks.
The Inspector General of Police aims to ensure that officers’ conduct, including on personal social media platforms, upholds the integrity and public image of the Ghana Police Service, while promoting accountability and strengthening governance within the force.
