Ghana to experience sunny weather with chances of thunderstorms on June 9

Ghanaians can expect a relatively calm start to the day today, June 9, 2025, as mist and fog patches settle over parts of the coastal belt, as well as mountainous and forested areas during the early morning hours.

According to the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), most parts of the country will experience partly cloudy skies in the morning.

As the day progresses, sunny conditions with occasional cloudiness will dominate much of the country.

However, there is a significant chance of thunderstorms or rain developing in the afternoon and continuing into the evening. These are expected mainly along the coast, middle belt, transition zone, and northern parts of Ghana.

In Accra, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy in the morning with a 30 to 40 percent chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Daytime temperatures will peak around 31°C.

Similar conditions are expected in Cape Coast, Takoradi, and Axim, where misty mornings will transition into sunny intervals followed by a likelihood of rain or thunderstorms later in the day.

Inland cities such as Koforidua, Kumasi, Akim Oda, and Techiman are starting the day with misty conditions, giving way to bright and sunny intervals.

These areas are also likely to experience thunderstorms by evening, with maximum temperatures ranging from 32°C to 33°C.

The northern sector will see relatively hot and sunny weather through the day, with afternoon highs reaching up to 36°C in Bolgatanga, Wa, and Nalerigu. However, thunderstorms remain a possibility in these areas by late afternoon or evening.

GMet advises residents, particularly in areas forecast to experience rain or thunderstorms, to take necessary precautions and stay updated with local weather bulletins as conditions evolve throughout the day.
