Ghana to ratify UN cybercrime convention in October – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana will this month ratify and sign the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime, marking a significant step in the country’s fight against digital threats.
Speaking at the launch of the 2025 National Cyber Security Awareness Month in Accra on Wednesday, October 1, the President underscored the importance of international cooperation in safeguarding the nation’s digital space.
“This October Ghana will take another historic step. We will ratify and sign the UN convention on Cyber Crime,” President Mahama declared.
He explained that the treaty would strengthen Ghana’s capacity to respond to emerging cyber threats.
“This treaty equips us with tools to investigate attacks, prosecute cyber criminals and protect critical information infrastructure,” he added.
The National Cyber Security Awareness Month, observed annually, seeks to raise awareness among citizens, institutions, and businesses on the need for safer practices online, particularly in an era where technology is central to socio-economic growth.
With this new development, Ghana will align itself with global standards in cybercrime prevention and enhance cooperation with other nations in combating cross-border digital crimes.
