Ghana welcomes new UN Resident Coordinator

Ghana has warmly received the newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator, His Excellency Zia Choudhury, marking another chapter in the country’s longstanding cooperation with the global body.
In a Facebook post sighted by MyNewsGh, Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, expressed delight over the new envoy’s arrival and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to the values and principles enshrined in the UN Charter.
“Ghana is pleased and honoured to welcome a new United Nations Resident Coordinator. With great delight, I received the open letters of His Excellency Zia Choudhury,” Ablakwa stated.
As the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary, the lawmaker underscored Ghana’s unshaken support for multilateralism and its significant contributions to global peace. He emphasized that Ghana would continue to consolidate its position as one of the top five contributors of troops to UN peacekeeping missions across conflict zones.
Ablakwa also reiterated Ghana’s commitment to pushing for reforms at the UN level in line with the African Union’s Ezulwini Consensus, which calls for fair representation of Africa in decision-making structures, particularly the Security Council.
He assured that under the leadership of President John Mahama, Ghana will deepen its collaboration with the UN to advance sustainable development across sectors.
“Congratulations, Excellency Choudhury — your track record and passion for development inspires hope,” Ablakwa concluded, signalling optimism for a fruitful partnership.
