Ghanaian woman fatally shot at Hamilton bus stop

Belinda Sarkodie, a Ghanaian woman living in Canada, was shot and killed while waiting at a bus stop on King Street in Hamilton on Friday, July 11.

Early reports suggest she may have been an unintended victim in what appears to be a gang-related shootout.

According to eyewitness accounts shared with Bigscout Media, Sarkodie was checking herself in a mirror moments before she was fatally shot in the head.

Two others were also shot—one died at the scene, and the other survived with injuries.

The incident has shocked the Ghanaian community and reignited concerns over growing gun violence in Canadian cities.

Hamilton Police have since cordoned off the area and launched an investigation, but no arrests have been made and the motive remains unknown.

This isn’t the first time Hamilton has witnessed such tragedy. In April 2025, Indian student Harsimrat Randhawa was killed by a stray bullet at another bus stop.

In 2024, Ghanaian national Adu Boakye was also gunned down near a Toronto bus stop in a random attack.

Sarkodie reportedly had no immediate family in Canada, a detail that has deepened the grief within the Ghanaian diaspora, now mourning yet another senseless loss.
