Ghanaians have spoken for Mahama – Asah-Asante tells NPP to drop apology plans

Political scientist Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante has strongly rebuked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over reported plans to apologise to President John Dramani Mahama for derogatory comments made by its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi.
According to Dr. Asah-Asante, the current political climate shows clearly that Ghanaians unanimously endorsed Mahama’s return to power, despite all the smear campaigns mounted against him in the past.
“But events have taken a new trend, and the person that they abused, the person that they hoped would never have power—Ghanaians have fought for him,” he noted.
“Mahama never spoke about this. But the people of this country have spoken for Mahama. That in spite of all the invectives used against you, in spite of everything—come, we give you power. Ghanaians have given him power.”
He minced no words, calling on Dr. Afriyie and his team to abandon any talks of an apology.
“So what is Dr. Afriyie telling us? He and his team, they should shy away from that.”
The remarks follow revelations by Effiduase Asokore MP, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, who disclosed on Channel One TV’s Face to Face that senior members of the NPP plan to formally apologise to President Mahama on behalf of Wontumi for offensive remarks made in the heat of political rivalry.
Dr. Afriyie further alleged that Mahama may be behind Chairman Wontumi’s current legal woes, as he faces investigations by EOCO for alleged financial crimes, including money laundering and fraud.
