Ghanaians Love mediocrity – Vickie Bright challenges nation to do better
Former Deputy Minister of State, Victoria Bright, aka Vicky Bright has expressed concerns about Ghana’s development, stating that despite some progress, the country has fallen behind in many critical areas.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime monitored by MyNewsGh, she remarked, “If you ask me how well we’ve done, I’d say we’ve done reasonably well. I would love to say it’s great, but I’ll stop at ‘reasonably well’ because we are still trying to cover the basics while the world is advancing at an exponential rate.”
She highlighted Ghana’s struggle to keep up with technological advancements, lamenting the country’s inability to manufacture its own computers while global powers are developing quantum computing and AI-driven industries.
According to her, a major issue holding Ghana back is its tendency to settle for mediocrity. “We love mediocrity in this country. People celebrate mediocrity, and we don’t push ourselves hard enough. We have brilliant minds, but we fail to leverage them for national development,” she said.
Despite these setbacks, Bright believes Ghana can turn things around. She urged the nation to harness its talent, embrace innovation, and celebrate genuine success stories rather than being complacent.
