GJA approves 62 candidates for national and regional election

The Elections Committee of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has officially released the list of candidates approved to contest the upcoming GJA elections scheduled for June 30, 2025.
In a statement signed by Mr. Peter Martey Agbeko, Chairman of the Elections Committee, a total of 13 national candidates and 49 regional candidates have been cleared to vie for various leadership positions within the Association, following the vetting process.
The Committee further noted that nominations for the Vice Chairperson position in the Volta Region remain open until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2025. Approved candidates from that region will be added to the final ballot ahead of the polls.
The national contest will see Albert Kwabena Dwumfour and Mawusi Yao Charles face off for the presidency, while other positions such as Vice President, General Secretary, Organising Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Affairs Officer have also attracted multiple contenders.
At the regional level, elections will be held across all 16 regions, with candidates contesting for roles including Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer. Competitive races are expected in regions such as Ashanti, Eastern, Central, Volta, and Upper West, where multiple individuals are vying for the same positions.
The full list of candidates for both national and regional offices has been published by the Committee and made available to members.
The GJA elections are a key event in Ghana’s media calendar, shaping the leadership and direction of the Association for the next term.
