Go as a servant, not a perfect minister – Nii Lantey advises Adutwum on NPP flagbearer bid

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, National Coordinator of the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP), has urged former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to approach his New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer campaign with humility, rather than banking entirely on his ministerial record.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, Vanderpuye advised Dr. Adutwum to position himself as a humble servant of the nation, rather than a flawless technocrat, if he truly wants to win over the party base and the public.

“He should go out there as Adutwum, a servant of this country. ‘I have served. I may not have achieved a perfect score, but I have served in humility and respect.’ Then people will assess him on that basis,” Vanderpuye said.

He warned that if Adutwum places too much emphasis on his performance as Minister for Education, voters may use that record against him, especially if there are lingering criticisms or unmet expectations.

“If people have issues about your tenure as minister, they will use that to punish you,” he cautioned.

The remarks come on the heels of Dr. Adutwum’s official declaration on June 18, 2025, announcing his intention to contest the NPP flagbearership ahead of the party’s January 2026 primaries. In a Facebook post, Adutwum expressed his readiness to lead, stating:

“With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the Flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party.”
