Go negotiate a plea bargain – Tanko-Computer to Adu-Boahen

Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, has intensified pressure on former National Signals Bureau (NSB) boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, urging him to consider a plea bargain as he could be facing a lengthy jail term over what the NDC calls a “fabricated and politically charged” memo.

Speaking to Joy News on Friday, May 9, Tanko-Computer didn’t just dismiss the allegations that the NDC received GH¢8 million from the NSB—he went a step further, suggesting criminal consequences for Adu-Boahene.

“They should go and negotiate a plea bargain, otherwise, he [Adu-Boahene] could be looking at 25 years,” Tanko-Computer said, suggesting the alleged actions could constitute a serious breach of national security and financial regulations.

The memo, allegedly authored by Adu-Boahene and addressed to the National Security Coordinator, claimed the NSB disbursed millions to opposition parties, including the NDC, ahead of the 2024 elections for election collation logistics and equipment. The NDC has flatly denied the claim, calling it “rubbish” and insisting the party was never a beneficiary.

“My opponent would give me resources to defeat him in an election? Does that make sense?” Tanko-Computer asked, ridiculing the notion that the NPP-led government would covertly finance its primary political rival.

Legal observers say Tanko-Computer’s reference to a possible 25-year sentence raises critical questions about what laws might have been violated and whether there is enough evidence to initiate criminal investigations into the alleged misuse of state funds.

The NDC’s posture also signals a growing demand for accountability not only from the accused individuals but from state institutions. “These guys are just clutching at straws. It won’t help them,” Tanko-Computer warned.
