GoldBod not involved in galamsey operations – CEO clarifies

Chief Executive Officer of Ghana GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, has denied allegations that the company purchases gold from illegal small-scale miners, commonly known as *galamseyers*.
Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points program, Mr. Gyamfi firmly rejected claims made by private legal practitioner Kofi Bentil that the state-backed gold-buying firm engages with unlicensed miners.
“The GoldBod doesn’t buy gold from illegal miners. We only deal with licensed small-scale miners,” Mr. Gyamfi stressed, adding that the company operates strictly within Ghana’s mining laws and regulatory frameworks.
His response followed comments by Mr. Bentil, who had accused GoldBod of indirectly fueling the illegal mining trade.
“We continue to buy gold from illegal miners who constitute 85% of small-scale miners and yet we claim we are fighting Galamsey,” Bentil stated earlier on the same program.
Mr. Gyamfi, however, dismissed the assertion as unfounded, emphasizing that GoldBod’s purchasing protocols are designed to ensure compliance and transparency.
He noted that the company collaborates with the Minerals Commission and other relevant authorities to verify the authenticity of suppliers.
“We have a thorough verification process in place. Every transaction goes through proper checks to ensure that the source of gold is legitimate,” he explained.
