Gordon Asare-Bediako granted bail after OSP detention

In a fresh update, Wontumi TV journalist Gordon Asare-Bediako has regained his freedom after being granted bail by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

His detention on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, stirred public debate, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

Reports indicate that Asare-Bediako’s ordeal was tied to claims he made about Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, alleging that Agyebeng had requested a private jet from the previous Akufo-Addo administration for personal use.

The journalist’s arrest sparked widespread reactions, with fellow media practitioners voicing concerns over press freedom and taking to social media to call for his release.

After spending hours in custody, he was granted bail set at five million Ghana cedis with sureties.

The situation continues to fuel discussions about the limits of free speech and the role of journalists in holding public officials accountable.
