Govt clears allowance arrears for teacher trainees in 46 colleges

The Government of Ghana, through the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), has fulfilled its financial obligation to teacher trainees across the country by clearing all outstanding allowances for the 2023/2024 academic year.

A total of 65,685 students from 46 Public Colleges of Education have received the long-awaited disbursements.

This was announced in an official statement dated April 10 and signed by the CEO of the SLTF, Dr. Saajida Shiraz. According to her, the move reflects the Fund’s dedication to its core mandate and the broader vision of the government to strengthen the nation’s education support systems.

“The payment is in consonance with the fund’s mandate to facilitate access to financing support for tertiary education students in Ghana.

“It also aligns with the government’s reset agenda – which includes deliberate and intentional efforts to strengthen support systems within the education sector and ensure uninterrupted academic progression for our future leaders,” she stated.

She emphasized the government’s commitment to streamlining disbursement processes moving forward, ensuring efficiency and policy alignment in the handling of educational financing.

“Robust measures are being implemented to guarantee the consistency, reliability, and seamless execution of all future disbursements in full alignment with established policy directives,” the statement added.
