Gov’t raids illegal mining sites along river Ankobra – Kwakye Ofosu

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has provided an update on the government’s intensified anti-galamsey operations along the River Ankobra.
In a post shared on his Facebook page, he said the operation was carried out on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, by the NAIMOS Task Force in collaboration with the Western Regional Security Council, the Western Naval Command and the Nzema East Blue Water Guards.
According to him, “The operation was carried out between Dwira Ashem through Dominase to Akango at the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.”
He explained that during the exercise, the NAIMOS Task Force and the Blue Water Guards patrolled and raided structures along the riverbanks while the Western Regional Security operatives, working with the Naval Command, cleared illegal mining activities directly on the Ankobra River.
Kwakye Ofosu stressed that this was not an isolated move but part of a sustained campaign.
“The NAIMOS Task Force has been intermittently sponsoring and leading these joint raids with the said troops over the past three weeks to remove all forms of galamsey activities on or along the river and its banks,” he said.
He further revealed that the coordinated exercise led to the seizure of mining equipment and personal belongings used in illegal operations, as well as the demolition of makeshift structures erected to facilitate galamsey.
“The operation resulted in the seizure of illegal mining wares and equipment, and several makeshift structures were demolished,” Kwakye Ofosu added.
