Gov’t sets aside GHC 150m for anti-galamsey fight in 2026 budget

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has revealed a significant boost to the fight against illegal mining as government prepares to allocate GH¢150 million to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in the 2026 fiscal year.
Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Thursday, November 13, themed “Resetting for Growth, Jobs, and Economic Transformation”, Dr. Ato Forson stressed government’s commitment to tackling the menace of illegal mining and its destructive impact on Ghana’s environment.
“An amount of GH¢150 million has been allocated to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) for their activities against illegal mining and forest degradation,” he announced during his presentation.
