Gov’t to roll out GHIMS in response to recent disruptions to LHIMS system—Health Minister

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has disclosed that the Ministry of Health in the coming days will roll out a robust system dubbed THE GHANA HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (GHIMS).

This comes as a response to the recent disruptions to LHIMS.

The minister for health, who took his turn on the government accountability series at the Jubilee House said disclosed that the Vendor under the LHIMS contract refused to comply with milestones requiring the handover of important data and components to the Health Ministry.

He indicated that the vendor resorted to blackmail tactics, switching off the system intermittently to disrupt health delivery.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh further revealed that in March 2019 a contract worth USD 100 million required Lightwave eHealth Solutions to deploy a comprehensive health information management system across 950 facilities nationwide, however ONLY 450 Health Facilities covered despite the payment of $77 million ( over 70% of contract sum) and a two-year contract extension which lapsed in December, 2024.

He indicated that a forensic audit conducted into the LHIMS contract revealed a gap of over US $18 million in performance relating to hardware, software and other requirements adding that the audit will be given to the Attorney General for action.
