GRA Begins Secret Recruitment As NDC Questions Loyalty of GRA Boss 

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has quietly started a recruitment drive to fill hundreds of vacant positions left in the wake of mass dismissals following the return to power of President John Mahama.

Multiple sources within the Authority have confirmed that the ongoing hiring process is being conducted quietly without public advertisement or formal notice to avoid triggering pressure from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) grassroots base. 

Many members of the party say Mr. Anthony Kwasi Sarpong who was appointed the Commissioner- General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on 21st January, 2025 is not a member of the party and lacks sensitivity to their concerns. 

Many supporters of the ruling NDC have expressed growing frustration over lack of job opportunities despite the party’s return to power and assurances of jobs. 

The new recruits are reportedly being brought in to replace former staff who were dismissed shortly after the change in government, in what some insiders say was part of a broader restructuring exercise. 

Concerns have been raised about the lack of transparency and fairness in the process, particularly as thousands of NDC loyalists continue to remain unemployed and feel sidelined.

GRA officials, when contacted, declined to comment officially, but a senior officer defended the recruitment, insisting that the Authority needed to fill critical gaps urgently to meet its revenue targets.

The recruitment reportedly covers Assistant Revenue Officers, Revenue Officers all the way to Chief Revenue Officers with basic salaries ranging from Ghs10,000 to as much as Ghs30,000, this portal was told. 

Meanwhile, some disgruntled members within the NDC warn that the silent recruitment risks deepening internal tensions if party foot soldiers continue to feel excluded from the benefit of power.

Pressure is being mounted on under-fire GRA Commissioner to put party members first.

A court process initiated over his appointment was quietly settled but he has continued to face protest from within and outside the GRA. Many members of the party accuse Mr. Sarpong of sidelining party members in promotions and recruitments. 

Mr. Sarpong holds an MSc in Financial Risk Management from London Metropolitan University, UK; a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Manchester, UK; and a First Class Honours in Business Administration (Accounting option) from the University of Ghana.

In addition, he holds a professional certificate in Taxation from the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana and a certificate in investment and securities from the Ghana Stock Exchange.

He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG); Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and Ghana Association of Restructuring and Insolvency Advisors (GARIA).
