Great Ampong shares untold details of Lumba’s final years

Gospel musician Great Ampong has opened up about his personal interactions with the late Highlife icon Daddy Lumba, revealing the singer’s struggles and the privacy surrounding his illness.

Ampong recounted visiting Lumba during his final years during an interview on Neat FM with Ola Michael on December 8, 2025,

“I used to go to his house to check on him, but they always said he wasn’t around. Almost two years later, Daddy Lumba called me and asked me to come home. When I got there, he was sick and in a wheelchair,” Ampong said.

Ampong described how Lumba sought spiritual support amid his pain.

“He said the pain he was going through was so severe to the extent that he sometimes wished he could end it all and asked me to get him a powerful pastor,” he revealed.

He also shed light on how the singer kept his condition private. “He used to watch me in the CCTV cameras whenever I was there to check on him, but he was the one who told them not to allow anyone see him because of his condition,” Ampong said.

The gospel artist emphasized that the public narrative around Lumba’s health has been exaggerated. “Hearing the lies people are fabricating made me want to explain things properly,” he added.
