GRNMA leadership apologizes to health Minister over media attack

The leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has rendered an unqualified apology to the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, following what they described as an unfortunate recent media attack on his person.

In a statement issued on September 3, 2025, the Ministry of Health confirmed that the GRNMA delegation met the Minister to apologise and also discuss ways to strengthen relations between nurses and the government.

“The Minister graciously accepted the apology and encouraged the Association to prioritize dialogue and constructive engagement with the government,” the statement read.

“He reiterated his commitment to fostering a strong partnership with healthcare professionals to improve healthcare delivery nationwide.”

Highlighting government achievements, Hon. Akandoh pointed to the integration of 13,500 nurses into the government payroll, the establishment of the Ghana Medical Training Fund (GMTF), and the retooling of several health facilities.

He also mentioned payments of arrears on nursing training allowances, National Health Insurance claims, and the government’s absorption of half of admission fees for nursing training institutions.

The Minister further pledged to ensure the successful implementation of the collective bargaining agreement aimed at improving nurses’ conditions of service, urging all stakeholders and the public to remain calm as the government works to resolve challenges within the sector.

The GRNMA delegation included former President Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey, immediate past President Dr. Krobea Asante, current President Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, and General Secretary Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum.
