Gun battle over sand-winning claims five lives near Nsawam

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred on April 29, 2025, at Asiyaw, near Akwane-Dobro in the Nsawam area. The incident resulted in the death of five adult males.
According to the police, a confrontation between two groups over sand-winning activities escalated into violence, leading to the shooting.
When the police crime scene team arrived, they found the lifeless bodies of the five victims, each with gunshot wounds.
Investigators recovered a Toyota Tacoma and a Toyota Tundra vehicle at the scene, along with a pump action gun loaded with seventeen live cartridges.
Additional evidence included four empty cartridges, three 7.62/39mm empty shells, one 9mm empty shell, and five heavy-duty motorbikes.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
Police say investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the violence. They are also appealing to the public for information that may assist in the case.
