He was a fighter – Annoh-Dompreh remembers Ernest Yaw Kumi at funeral

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Member of Parliament for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, delivered a tribute on behalf of the Minority Caucus at the funeral of the late Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi, highlighting his resilience, integrity and commitment to public service.

Annoh-Dompreh began with a scripture reference, stating, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Psalm 116 verses 15.”

He added that the caucus was gathered “with hearts weighed down by grief, yet lifted by gratitude,” to bid farewell to “our colleague, our brother, our friend, the Honourable Ernest Yaw Kumi.”

Kumi passed away on July 7, 2025. Annoh-Dompreh described his death as “a deep wound in our collective spirit, a reminder of the fragility of life and the profound impact of a life lived with purpose.”

He outlined Kumi’s political journey, noting that it was “not merely a political ascent,” but “the story of a man who refused to quit. A man whose resolve was stronger than the storms that confronted him.”

He described him as “a fighter in every sense, principled, courageous, and unshaken in the belief that God’s time is always the best.”

Recalling his electoral history, Annoh-Dompreh noted that Kumi narrowly lost the 2020 election but returned to win his party’s nomination for 2024.

“In December 2024, the good people of Akwatia spoke clearly and overwhelmingly, entrusting him with their mandate,” he said.

Even when the results were contested, Annoh-Dompreh stressed that Kumi “stood as a learning colleague of the noble legal profession who valued the supremacy of the courts and the rule of law.

He fought calmly and courageously through the legal processes until justice prevailed.” He added, “That was Yaw, the fighter, resilient and unwavering.”

Kumi was sworn into office on January 7, 2025. “He was the legitimate Member of Parliament for Akwatia,” Annoh-Dompreh stated, highlighting his service on the Lands and Natural Resources Committee and other parliamentary assignments.

“Whether at the committee level or on the floor, he distinguished himself,” he said.
