He was a rising star – Nana B pays tribute to Ernest Kumi

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has described the sudden passing of Akwatia MP Ernest Yaw Kumi as a major loss to the party and Ghana at large.

Nana B revealed that the news of Kumi’s death broke during a crucial meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

“This is a big blow. It is a devastating moment for the NPP. The news came today when we were having a NEC meeting. The Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP broke the news, and it was later confirmed by the Minority Leader. It’s a very unfortunate event,” he said in an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Monday, July 7.

The 40-year-old MP, who died after a short illness, was regarded as one of the NPP’s promising young leaders. Nana B spoke with emotion, recalling his personal bond with Kumi beyond their shared political platform.

“Ernest is a personal friend beyond politics. He was a great guy—intelligent, young, and full of life. The last time I was with him was in Belgium when we attended a conference together. He was truly a rising star in the NPP.”

Offering his condolences, Nana B expressed deep concern for Kumi’s immediate family, especially his wife, and urged Ghanaians to remember them in their prayers.

“It’s so sad… Our condolences to the family and the wife. I know she is going through a lot right now. We hope and pray that the good Lord grants her the needed strength to carry on.”

Ernest Kumi entered Parliament in 2024 after winning the Akwatia seat on the ticket of the NPP.
