I received the news of Apostle Safo’s passing with deep sadness – Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, the revered religious leader, innovator, and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

“I have received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, a pioneering Ghanaian innovator; and the founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission,” Dr. Bawumia said in a tribute on Friday.

Apostle Safo, widely celebrated as “Kantanka, the African Star,” passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, as confirmed by his family and church.

He was described as a man of God, philanthropist, agriculturalist, and industrialist whose innovations and compassion left an indelible mark on Ghanaian society.

Paying homage to his legacy, Dr. Bawumia noted that Apostle Safo’s contributions went far beyond the pulpit.

“He pioneered indigenous innovations and forcefully inspired an industrial spirit amongst Ghanaians.

“He was also dedicated to improving the lives of the less privileged in society as witnessed in his celebrated numerous philanthropic endeavours,” the Vice President said.

He also shared personal reflections on his encounters with the late Apostle, “As a religious leader, his open arms received me. Anytime I called on him, I departed his presence with lasting words of encouragement and wisdom.”

Dr. Bawumia extended his condolences to the Safo family, the Kristo Asafo Mission, and all who are mourning.

“On behalf of my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the Kristo Asafo Mission, and all who mourn this irreparable loss.

“May his legacy continue to endure and inspire future generations to believe in our domestic solutions, serve their communities, and put Ghana first.”

The Safo family, in their official statement signed by his daughter and former MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, described him as “a true genius, a beacon of hope for many, and a father to the fatherless,” while assuring that funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
