Heavy Rains Submerge Parts of Accra

Several parts of Accra have been flooded this afternoon, Thursday, November 13, 2025, following a few hours of heavy rainfall.

Areas including Kaneshie and Sakumono have been particularly affected, with floodwaters covering streets, blocking major roads, and displacing traders and residents. The rising water has made movement difficult, forcing many people to take shelter until the rain eases.

The floods began shortly after the rainfall started, highlighting how quickly water can accumulate in low-lying and busy areas of the city. Streets and market areas became submerged, disrupting business activities and daily routines for residents and traders.

Environmental observers note that this problem has become a recurring one, with even short rainfall episodes capable of causing significant flooding and property damage. Residents say the situation is worrying, particularly because it leads to repeated disruptions and threatens goods and livelihoods whenever it rains.

City authorities are being called upon to take urgent action to address the flooding, including clearing choked gutters and ensuring proper drainage, to prevent such situations from occurring in the future.
