Hotel deal was pure propaganda

Presidential hopeful Bryan Acheampong has dismissed claims that he improperly acquired a hotel through a deal involving SSNIT, describing the controversy as politically motivated propaganda.
Speaking in an interview with Osei Bonsu on Asempa FM monitored by MyNewsGh, Acheampong said the narrative around him “buying a hotel” had been deliberately distorted. “This whole thing about Bryan buying a hotel was driven by propaganda. It was all the time driven by propaganda,” he stated.
Acheampong explained that the transaction did not originate during his time in government and followed a transparent procurement process. “This is a transaction that started in 2021, when I was not a minister,” he said, adding that the owners of the hotel had been searching for strategic partners for years due to deteriorating facilities.
According to him, the hotel was advertised publicly in 2021, attracting interest from multiple firms. “Fourteen companies submitted bids to partner. It was an open tender,” Acheampong said, noting that Rock City, his company, was among those that expressed interest.
He said the process continued into 2022, when three companies were shortlisted. “Rock City plus two others were shortlisted. There was no issue. Nobody wrote to us to say there was a problem,” he said, stressing that the transaction progressed without controversy at the time.
Acheampong argued that the issue only became politicised much later. “It was only in April 2023, when I became one of the potential running mates, that it suddenly became an issue,” he said, insisting that the facts of the deal have remained unchanged.
