How Shatta Wale denied me VGMA ‘Artiste of the Year’ – Sonnie Badu

Ghanaian gospel musician Sonnie Badu has revealed that he was poised to become the first gospel artiste to win the Artiste of the Year award at the then Vodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMA) years ago, but lost out to Shatta Wale to prevent potential chaos at the event.
Speaking on Angel FM Kumasi monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Sonnie Badu explained that in the award year in question, he was competing alongside Shatta Wale, and either Stonebwoy or Sarkodie. Having already won the Male Vocalist category and another award, he was hopeful of securing the overall Artiste of the Year accolade.
“To prevent chaos that might have erupted on that night, the award was given to Shatta Wale,” he said, acknowledging the decision made by the organisers.
The Evangelist added that after that experience, he chose not to pursue further nominations at the Ghana Music Awards. He, however, expressed satisfaction that Joe Mettle and later Dianah Hamilton became the gospel artistes to claim the prestigious title.
