Human Rights activist challenges Senator Nwoko over alleged underage marriage of Regina Daniels

Human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has publicly challenged Senator Ned Nwoko’s assertion that his estranged wife, actress Regina Daniels, was 21 years old when they got married, not 17 as popularly believed.
The disagreement erupted after Senator Nwoko released a statement a few hours ago dismissing what he described as “false claims” by Regina Daniels.
In his statement, the businessman explained that he had verified Regina’s age during their first meeting and obtained her INEC voter’s card, which showed she was born on October 10, 1998.
“For clarity, during my first meeting with Regina, I asked her age, and she told me she was 21 years old. I further asked if she had any document to support this, and she presented her INEC voter’s card, which clearly shows that she was born on October 10th, 1998,” Nwoko stated, adding that he kept the document “in my possession” since that day.
He also claimed that their marriage took place six years ago, meaning Regina would be 27 years old today. “Any suggestion that I married her at 17 is false and should not be accepted by the public,” he said.
However, Sowore countered Nwoko’s defense, insisting that there is concrete evidence proving Regina Daniels was underage at the time of marriage.
“We have obtained a copy from Regina Daniels’s international passport, which was issued based on her birth certificate. She was underage at the time of her marriage to Chinedu @Senator Prince Ned Nwoko,” Sowore stated.
The activist also questioned the credibility of the voter’s card used by Nwoko to defend his claim.
“It’s crucial to question INEC Nigeria on this discrepancy, as he is currently using an @INECNigeria voter’s card to assert her age. As he knows, the process for obtaining a voter’s card may not involve the rigorous scrutiny required for an international passport, which is based on a birth certificate and other legitimate IDs,” he added.
