Husband loses wife after dumsor during surgery at hospital

A Nigerian man has tragically lost his wife due to delays during an operation at Jummai Babangida Aliyu General Hospital, caused by a power outage and a fuel shortage in the hospital’s generator.

According to posts the man shared on his Facebook, the incident began when the power went out 35 minutes into his wife’s surgery.

He explained that the hospital’s generator, which was supposed to keep things running, had run out of fuel.

Although fuel was eventually brought, the generator refused to start, and a mechanic had to be called. Meanwhile, his wife was left in the operating room.

He continued to describe the series of unfortunate events, stating that a nurse reassured him the surgery was continuing, even though the hospital had to rely on a lamp or flashlight for lighting.

The mechanic, however, had to travel to a distant town to get parts, leaving the procedure delayed for over an hour.

Power was restored, but the generator still wasn’t fixed. What should have been a 90-minute operation stretched on until after 7 p.m.

The man’s posts quickly went viral, with many people offering their condolences and expressing disbelief at the tragic situation.

@atkfarouk: “This is horrible, may Nigeria never happen to us.”

@Iamsheriff5: “May Nigeria not happen to us. Let’s pray we don’t face similar challenges. The thought of a hospital struggling with power during a life-saving operation is devastating. May the deceased rest in peace.”

@mister_YB: “What sort of negligence is this for Gods sake, how can a hospital depend on NEPA for a life saving situation ??”

@realYusufTukur: “Some happenings in Nigeria can only be imagined in fiction books & movies than in reality. 😭 May Allah forgive her shortcomings, have mercy upon her soul & give him the fortitude to bear the loss. No amount of action, if any, can even reduce his pain.”

@Yusuf_A_J: “The worst stroke of pain will hit you when you get to know the ‘team’ that carried out the surgery. Definitely not even a junior reg.”

@_shebejnr: “Omoohh dead body go surplus for that hospital oooo, blood go flow. Tabdi… Make Nigeria no happen to any of us oooo.”
