I believe party pressure led to my dismissal – Former KATH CEO claims

Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah has suggested that sustained pressure from some National Democratic Congress (NDC) foot soldiers may have played a role in his removal as Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
He said he “strongly believed the incessant pressure from NDC foot soldiers on the party’s leadership led to [his] dismissal,” in an interview on Angel FM monitored by MyNewsGh.
He explained that the matter had long been resolved internally, and for that reason, he would not divulge further details. According to him, reopening the issue could create more problems than solutions.
“The issue was ironed out, so I wouldn’t delve into details for fear of betrayal or looking stupid for divulging intimate details surrounding that issue. So I won’t go any further,” he stated.
His comments come in the wake of his official dismissal from KATH. He was relieved of his position following a meeting with the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, on Friday, May 2, 2025.
Sources familiar with the meeting described it as cordial, noting that the Health Minister commended Prof. Addai-Mensah for his significant contributions to the hospital and Ghana’s health sector at large.
He has been directed to conclude all outstanding activities and hand over formally to a new CEO, whose name has not yet been disclosed.
In a brief remark after the directive, he congratulated his successor in advance and encouraged the management and staff of KATH to offer the needed support for a smooth transition.
Prof. Addai-Mensah was appointed CEO of KATH in November 2022 by the Akufo-Addo–Bawumia administration and still had two years remaining on his contract.
