New mobile data packages roll out today under gov’t directive

Beginning today, July 1, 2025, mobile data users across Ghana will enjoy increased data volumes on existing bundle packages at no additional cost.
The new policy directive, issued by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, is now in full effect.
The improved packages apply to all three major telecom providers—MTN Ghana, AT Ghana, and Telecel Ghana—who have been instructed to adjust their data offerings upwards while maintaining current price points.
The move, announced last month by Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George, follows detailed stakeholder consultations aimed at ensuring greater value and fairness in the telecommunications sector.
“From today, all data bundles will experience at least a 10% increase in value.
“For instance, a GH¢400 bundle that previously offered 195GB now gives 236GB,” Mr. George stated during a press briefing on June 10.
As part of the enforcement, MTN Ghana—classified as a Significant Market Power (SMP)—has reversed its controversial bundle changes.
The GH¢399 bundle, which had been reduced to 92.88GB at a new GH¢350 price, has been restored to offer 214GB for GH¢399. Additionally, all MTN bundles now carry a 15% boost in data volume.
Meanwhile, AT Ghana and Telecel Ghana have also aligned with the policy. AT Ghana users will now receive 236GB for GH¢400, up from 195GB.
Telecel Ghana, in a more aggressive adjustment, has raised its GH¢400 bundle from 90GB to a market-leading 250GB.
