I choose to stay neutral—Akyem Swedru MP

Akyem Swedru Member of Parliament has denied reports of endorsing any candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership.
According to him, he has ties that connect him to a number of individuals who have decided to contest for the position.
Therefore, it will be difficult for him to stick his neck out to endorse any candidate for the position.
He will therefore stay out of endorsing any candidate for the contest and will only support the candidate the party elects to lead the political party.
In a post shared via social media, he announced that he chooses to be neutral in the contest.
His post read “*FOR THE RECORDS*
Out of respect, I have decided to stay NEUTRAL as we begin campaigns for our Presidential Primaries scheduled for 31st January 2026.
And here are my reasons….
1. Dr Mahamadu Bawumia is a big brother and friend. We have worked very well together, and I believe that with his vast experience, he will do a good job if the party gives him the nod.
2. My namesake, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is a former senior colleague whom I have known way back in the US and a well-respected member of our party. His support to see our party grow over the years is admirable and cannot be underestimated.
3. Dr. Bryan Acheampong is a personal and very close friend , and we both share a common political vision. He’s my go-to person and has always supported my political career. As a senior member of Parliament and chairman of the Eastern NPP MP’s Caucus, it will be a great legacy to see one of my key members win the nod and eventually become president in 2029 for our great party.
Please ignore any news that suggests that I have endorsed a particular candidate. At the right time, i will provide an update on my decision.
I believe that if any of these gentlemen win the January 2026 primaries, the NPP will be in a good position to defeat our opponent and serve Ghanaians better.
Uniting for that purpose is KEY, and how we handle and relate to each of these noble personalities of our great party is critical.
May God bless the NPP….
Signed
HON KENNEDY OSEI NYARKO. MP, AKIM SWEDRU, AND CHAIRMAN OF NPP EASTERN NPP MOs CAUCUS”.
