I never said that – Assafuah clarifies Suame Interchange comments

Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Ekow Vincent Assafuah, has taken to social media to correct what he describes as a misrepresentation of his comments on the stalled Suame Interchange project in Kumasi.

“Never said this anywhere, I am man enough to say what I want to say. President Akuffo Addo’s leadership is peerless in terms of bold revolutionary steps that turns the fortunes of a country around.

“However, the Suame Interchange in Kumasi which delayed as a result of one or two of his appointees’ lack of understanding of the role Kumasi played in bringing the NPP to power was the cause.

“This is what I said and not this mischievous headline. I went ahead to produce documentary evidence to support my assertions. Please do the needful or else, I will hold you to strict proof,” Assafuah wrote.

His remarks follow earlier criticisms he made in an interview on Oyerepa TV, where he voiced frustration over what he sees as the neglect of the Ashanti Region despite its unwavering support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“I visited the Suame Roundabout before coming to your studios, and the filth and underdevelopment that has engulfed the place is disheartening. It’s bad that despite the Ashanti Region’s massive support, there’s practically nothing to show for it,” he said.

Assafuah, however, made it clear that his concerns should not be seen as an attack on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s former vice president and 2028 flagbearer hopeful. Instead, he blamed key implementing bodies, including the Ministry of Finance, for the setbacks.

“The NPP’s loss is not because Bawumia is a Muslim. It’s because of the betrayal from within the party,” he stressed, dismissing attempts to reduce the party’s challenges to religious grounds.

Looking ahead, Assafuah admitted to past mistakes and called for reconciliation within the NPP.

“We were naive then. But if the party forgives us and we vote massively in 2028 under the tutelage of Dr. Bawumia, we can transform the Ashanti Region to truly reflect the goodwill we enjoy from our people,” he said.
