I only supported Bawumia in 2024 because NPP elected him as flagbearer

Former General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has explained that he supported Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 election because the party elected him to lead the NPP.
He says that he gave his support to the former flagbearer and joined in his campaign because that is expected of a patriot.
Kwabena Agyei Agyepong believes that the 2024 electoral cycle is over, and therefore, he has committed no crime in declaring his intentions to run for the flagbearership position in the New Patriotic Party.
“I was with the elected flagbearer of the NPP. Every patriot is supposed to support the elected flagbearer. After the primaries, if I win, I expect every member of the party to come on board to support me because of the party,” he said.
Adding that “that is the role of a patriot. Today, when I declared to contest, this was my first question. As if I am being penalized for being a patriot. Do they want to tell me that if we contest in an election and you don’t win, you should not support the one who won? This is not right, and the fourth estate should educate the public on that.
In fact, those who came in last minute should be the ones to be questioned. That electoral cycle ended on December 7, so we now have a new electoral cycle with different dynamics. The party should have options because diversity is the spice of life. Why should the party be stuck with one issue?
To Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, the party’s vetting committee has, over the years, done a disservice to the party.
“I think the vetting committee in the past hasn’t done itself justice. The party should be strong. The party can reserve the right to prevent certain people from contesting. Character matters and people must be called out when they act in ways that brings the party to disrepute.
