I only wear suits for official 0ccasions — President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama used his recent interview with YouTuber Wode Maya not just to discuss policy, he also made a clear statement about Ghana’s cultural diplomacy, particularly through his intentional wardrobe choices.
“I love the fact that you’ve been intentional with what you wear when you’re out of Ghana,” Wode Maya noted. To that, Mahama responded that he sees his clothing as an extension of national representation.
“You’re representing the continent,” he said of his host, and clarified his own intent: “One, this is weather friendly … for our temperature. It’s comfortable, easy to wear.”
Mahama distinguished between his everyday style and formal wear, stating, “I only wear suits for some official occasions … otherwise every day at work I feel more comfortable in this attire.” For formal events, he said, he reverts to traditional dress.
His deliberate sartorial approach serves more than comfort; it signals support for Ghana’s garment industry and projects African identity on international platforms.
