I receive thousands every week from streaming – Wendy Shay

Ghanaian songstress Wendy Shay has disclosed that digital streaming has become a major financial pillar in her career, revealing that she earns substantial weekly income from online platforms.
Speaking in an interview on Adom TV, she said she typically avoids discussing her personal earnings publicly but felt compelled to clarify the impact of streaming revenues on her work. “I don’t like to talk about my finances on air, but I receive thousands of dollars every week,” she stated.
Wendy Shay highlighted that YouTube alone contributes a significant portion of her earnings. “I was there this week when $10,000 dropped from YouTube, and that’s just YouTube alone,” she revealed, noting that multiple platforms collectively generate even more.
Beyond streaming, Wendy Shay also addressed the broader challenges faced by women in the music industry, explaining that female artists often operate under tougher conditions.
In a separate interview on GHOne TV, she said women must double their efforts to compete effectively.
“Being a woman in this industry is not easy. Sometimes our biology wants to pull us back,” she explained, pointing to emotional fluctuations, monthly cycles and fatigue as physical realities that demand even greater resilience.
According to her, societal expectations also weigh heavily on women in entertainment.
“You might be dealing with your cycle, your emotions, or fatigue, but you still have to move through and work five times harder than a man,” she noted.
