Dr. Enock Acheampong slams government over failure to appoint Defence Minister

Ghanaian lecturer Dr Enock Owuahene Acheampong has raised an alarm over Ghana’s governance lapses, questioning why the country has gone months without a substantive Minister of Defence following the former minister’s death.
Dr. Acheampong said the situation reflects a deeper administrative and financial paralysis within state institutions. “All institutions in Ghana do not have money to run—including Parliament,” he lamented.
He condemned the government’s delay in appointing a Defence Minister, calling it unprecedented and unacceptable in the current global climate.
“Ghana is not a serious country. There is no country on this planet that will accept being without a Minister of Defence for three months,” he statedIn an interview on Wontumi TV’s Morning Show,
Dr. Acheampong linked the prolonged vacancy to financial challenges, explaining that the President has yet to recall Parliament to confirm a nominee.
He further cautioned that with growing instability in the West African region, Ghana’s lack of a Defence Minister could endanger its national security.
“It is troubling that with all that’s happening in Ghana’s neighboring countries, we still do not have a Defence Minister,” he warned.
