I took a break, but I never stopped

After years of near silence in the media, Ghanaian musician Ayisi, formerly known as A.I., has shed light on why he seemed to vanish from the scene—without actually leaving music behind.

Speaking on Joy Prime with Roselyn Felli which was monitored by MyNewsGh, Ayisi admitted:

“I took a break and I have to accept it… I was handling some personal stuff too but I was always going back to the studio and recording.”

He clarified that while he wasn’t attending interviews or visible on platforms, he was far from idle. Instead, he was using the time to refine his craft and wait for divine timing.

“Of course I’m not the kind of person I would wait for everything to cool down before I take action… I was still recording, going to the studio, doing what I should be doing.”

When asked whether he saw this recent comeback coming, Ayisi responded with quiet conviction:

“I felt as though there would be a time where I would be asked, ‘Where are your materials?’… People don’t want to hear excuses. Did you keep showing up? Yes, I did.”

Despite over a decade in the industry, Ayisi noted that recognition had eluded him for much of that journey. He admitted it once troubled him:

“You’re comparing yourself with other people… but then you realize the only person you’re supposed to compare yourself with is yourself.”

Today, Ayisi seems to have found peace with his journey—accepting that some artists are not made for fame, but rather for purpose.

“My space is my space… just take control of that and do what I can do.”
