I want to leave a DVLA everyone will be proud of

The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has pledged to revolutionize the agency’s operations by ensuring swift and efficient service delivery while tackling deep-rooted corruption.

Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues, he outlined bold initiatives aimed at transforming the institution into one that Ghanaians can trust.

A key issue Kotey addressed is the presence of unscrupulous middlemen, popularly known as goro boys, who exploit customers by extorting money in exchange for expedited services. Shockingly, he admitted that some DVLA staff are complicit in this practice.

“We have discovered that some of our own people are part of the ‘goro boys’ who extort money from customers. This is a challenge we are tackling head-on,” he stated firmly.

In a significant breakthrough, Kotey revealed that the backlog of driver’s licenses, which had accumulated for over a year and a half, has now been cleared.

“The one-and-a-half-year backlog of licences has now been printed,” he assured, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to improving efficiency.

Beyond service delivery, the CEO also highlighted the financial losses incurred due to the difficulty in accessing DVLA services.

As a solution, he announced plans to expand the authority’s offices nationwide. “We are losing funds due to people’s struggles to access our services, thus the decision to open new offices across the country,” he explained.

Ultimately, Kotey envisions a DVLA that operates with integrity and efficiency, free from corruption and unnecessary bureaucracy.

“I want to leave a DVLA everyone will be proud of, a DVLA that will regularize the activities of the ‘goro boys’,” he concluded, signaling his determination to reshape the institution’s image and service delivery.
