Member of Parliament for Bantama in the Ashanti Region, Francis Asenso Boakye, has debunked claims that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is an establishment candidate.
According to him, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidature is not being pushed by the leadership of the New Patriotic Party, but rather, it is being pushed by the grassroots.
He says he, as a member of parliament, was pushed by the wave to join the former vice president.
“Who is pushing? If the grassroots are pushing, no one can stop it. I myself have been carried away by the wave of the grassroots. If the grassroots are pushing for Dr. Bawumia to come, then so be it.
He continued, “As for the party leadership, I don’t know of anything the party has done to promote one single candidate unless you tell me.”
To him, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the only candidate who possesses the ability to unify all camps in the political party, indicating that he has become the natural leader of the party.
