I would have resigned—Nyaho-Tamakloe slams Bawumia’s leadership

Veteran politician and founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has cast doubt on the leadership capabilities of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s 2024 presidential candidate and former Vice President of Ghana.

Speaking candidly on TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe made it clear he believes Bawumia lacks the decisiveness and independence Ghana urgently needs in its next leader.

“The mess in which we find ourselves requires leadership that can make decisive decisions without any undue interference, and I doubt Dr. Bawumia has that temerity as a leader,” he stated.

According to the outspoken statesman, the country is facing a critical turning point, with its economic and social fabric under immense pressure. For him, only bold and uncompromising leadership can offer the kind of solutions the nation is desperate for.

“We have reached a point in our nation’s history where the stakes are incredibly high, and the solutions require nothing short of bold, decisive leadership.

The economic and social challenges facing Ghana today—ballooning debt, rising unemployment, and an eroded public trust in governance—cannot be addressed by a leader who is constantly looking over his shoulder for approval from power brokers.”

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe didn’t mince words about Bawumia’s performance as Vice President and head of the Economic Management Team either.

“I am not convinced that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has shown that level of resolve. Throughout his time as Vice President and head of the Economic Management Team, Bawumia’s track record has not demonstrated the independent-mindedness or tenacity we need right now. If it were me, I would have resigned,” he asserted.
