I would’ve stepped aside if my tribe and religion caused NPP’s 2024 defeat—Bawumia

Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has explained that if his religion and tribe contributed to the party’s failure in the 2024 election, he would have stepped aside.
He explains that he is not a selfish person and values the party, but the Mike Ocquaye Committee report and other research have proven that the NPP did not lose because of his religion or tribe.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia made this known when he addressed the conference of the chairmen for the New Patriotic Party in Kumasi on June 21, 2025.
“My religion and tribe were not factors in the 2024 election. They were not factors, so we should not try to inject that Christians will not vote for Bawumia. My 4.7 million votes—were they only Muslims who voted?
It is not possible. When Kufour lost, did we say religion? When Mills lost, did we say religion? When Nana Akufo-Addo lost, did we say religion?
That is not a factor but people want to make it a factor for political reasons. If that was the case I would have stepped aside because I am not a selfish person. I value the party, if that was the case I would have stepped aside because I would not want to jeopardize the ability of the party’s to win the 2028 election, but I don’t think that is the case but people are trying to make it the case without data,”he remarked.
