Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has offered his private jet to support the emergency transfer of remains from the recent military helicopter crash to South Africa for advanced forensic testing.
The jet departed on Thursday, August 7, carrying biological samples from the victims, along with a government delegation and forensic experts from the Ghana Police Service’s CID.
The mission, led by the CID’s Head of Forensic Analysis, aims to complete DNA identification within 6 to 12 hours of arrival.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak said the move was to speed up identification and allow for dignified burials.
“We are working around the clock to conclude investigations and give families closure,” he said.
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh added that while Ghana can conduct such tests, international confirmation ensures accuracy and faster results.
The crash occurred on August 6 in Adansi Akrofuom, killing eight officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Alhaji Murtala Mohammed. Flags remain at half-mast as the nation prepares for a state burial.
