IERPP calls out Mahama over unfulfilled audit promises

The Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP) has criticised President John Dramani Mahama for failing to fulfil his pledge to conduct forensic audits into the National Cathedral project and the use of COVID-19 funds.
Speaking at a media engagement, the Executive Director of the think tank, Professor Isaac, expressed disappointment over what he described as inaction on a key campaign commitment made ahead of the 2024 elections.
“President Mahama, at the launch of his party’s manifesto in Winneba in August 2024, indicated that the two items would receive much attention within his first 120 days in power. Ladies and gentlemen, I can report to you that not much has been done in that regard,” he said.
Professor Isaac emphasised the importance of the audits in ensuring transparency and restoring public trust, especially after repeated demands for accountability under the previous administration.
“When forensic audits stall, the truth is buried. The people deserve answers, not silence. President Mahama must audit the National Cathedral and COVID-19 funds as he promised.
He missed that in his 120 days in power. He should do it now,” he added.
The IERPP boss described the current state of progress on the pledge as “zero” and called on the President to move swiftly in fulfilling his promise.
The think tank argues that timely action is critical to prevent public disillusionment and ensure justice for what it believes are unresolved issues of financial accountability.
