If he keeps the focus, he will win the next election for the NDC – Adongo on Ato Forson

Isaac Adongo, MP for Bolgatanga Central, has suggested that Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has demonstrated the qualities of a future national leader.
Adongo disclosed that he had privately shared this view with the minister in an interview on GHOne TV monitored by MyNewsGh.
“Look, privately I told him I said if you continue on the path that you are continuing, I don’t see the next president beyond you,” he said.
“He clarified that his remark was not an endorsement but an assessment of the minister’s performance. “I’m not by this saying that Ato contests for president, but it is just to let him understand how I situate the work that he has done.”
Adongo stressed that Dr. Forson’s work has impressed many within the party. “He’s a young man. I don’t think he may even be having that contemplation, but just to let him understand that we sitting back, we are impressed with the work that he’s done and that he should keep the focus.”
He argued that the finance minister’s approach to governance and transparency has strengthened his standing in the NDC. “If he keeps the focus, he will win the next election for the NDC. There’s no two words about that.”
The MP also highlighted the minister’s oversight of reviewed agreements and compliance with statutory requirements. Adongo pointed out that previous agreements requiring parliamentary approval under Article 181(5) and the Public Financial Management Act had not been submitted. He said Dr. Forson corrected these lapses.
He also referenced renegotiated tax agreements that yielded financial gains. “Tax exemptions that were overbloated that he was able with his team to renegotiate and give Ghanaians $9 million of benefits lower than what he came to inherit.”
Adongo described these actions as evidence of leadership capacity, noting that the minister consistently placed national interest above partisan considerations.
