If Ken Ofori-Atta is truly sick, let’s handle it with care – Prof Gyampo

Political Science professor, Ransford Gyampo, has urged state institutions, particularly the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and National Security, to consider former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s health condition as they pursue accountability.
Speaking on The Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, June 21, Prof. Gyampo said if Mr. Ofori-Atta is genuinely ill, then investigations and actions concerning him must reflect a sense of empathy and care.
“If Ofori-Atta is truly not well, let us deal with this matter in a manner that takes cognisance of the fact that he is not well,” he stated.
His remarks were in response to fellow panellist Dr. Joshua Zaato, who had earlier suggested that National Security could verify whether Ofori-Atta is currently receiving treatment at Mayo Clinic abroad.
Prof. Gyampo also raised concerns about whether the Special Prosecutor had verified Ofori-Atta’s location.
“Has the OSP gone to where Mr. Ofori-Atta is and he is not there?” he questioned, hinting at a need for due diligence before making public declarations.
This comes amid renewed tensions after Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, in a June 2 press conference, declared Ofori-Atta wanted for failing to appear at his office as scheduled.
“It is three hours past the agreed time for Ken Ofori-Atta to attend upon the Office of the Special Prosecutor. He has failed to do so… I have directed that he should be placed on the wanted list again,” Mr. Agyebeng announced.
In defense of her husband, Mrs. Angela Ofori-Atta refuted claims that he was avoiding accountability, describing him as a man who had always respected institutional processes.
“The Ken that we all know does not run away from accountability,” she stated in a June 16 interview.
“He has been to CHRAJ to talk about his work. This is not a Ken who runs away from accountability… I ask the public to remember that he hasn’t shied away from facing up to issues.”
