If scrapping OSP is needed, I will support it

As public debate grows over the effectiveness of the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Alhassan Suhuyini has indicated he would support abolishing the institution if a stronger anti-corruption framework is introduced to replace it.

He stressed that while he has been “very indifferent” toward the OSP since its establishment, the national interest requires continuous improvement in governance systems.

“It appears that the calls for it to be scrapped are growing,” he observed in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.

“I wouldn’t mind. If it gets to that, I will be one of those who will support that call, except that I will want in its place for something to be done.”

Suhuyini suggested increased independence and resourcing for institutions such as CHRAJ and EOCO and reiterated the need to separate the Attorney-General’s Office from the Ministry of Justice.

“We cannot just scrap it for the sake of it,” he cautioned.

“We should scrap it with the intention of strengthening the anti-corruption drive.”

He emphasized that reforms must deliver an institution that is “more rigorous, more frontal and better than we currently have.”
