Chieftaincy conflict claims one life; many houses burnt down

Violence in the communities of Asemko and Butre in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region, due to disagreements over chieftaincy, has claimed the life of one person and provoked a massive arson that has left many houses burnt down.
The chieftaincy conflict was rekindled when some community members of Asemko sought to enstool a new chief. The move was opposed by rival communities, resulting in the destruction of property and the death of one person, who was allegedly decapitated.
The chieftaincy conflict has lingered on for years, but the attempt to put in place a new chief led to the violence witnessed.
Asemko has become a ghost town as security agencies take over investigations into the matter.
