If Wontumi owed EXIM GHC 10 million, they would have taken him to court – Kwame Nkrumah Tikese

Radio host Kwame Nkrumah Tikese has pushed back against fresh accusations targeting NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, over a supposed loan default.
The claims suggest that Wontumi received a hefty GH¢10 million loan from Eximbank to undertake a maize farming project — a venture he is alleged to have abandoned without repayment.
But Tikese is challenging this narrative, urging critics to consider the structure and safeguards surrounding such financial arrangements.
According to him, loans granted by Eximbank for agricultural initiatives at the time came with strict requirements. Beneficiaries were expected to provide collateral, work with assigned farm managers, and operate under insured terms to safeguard the investment.
“The way these loans were structured, it’s not as simple as someone taking money and walking away,” Tikese explained on his show.
“If Chairman Wontumi truly defaulted on a loan of that magnitude, there would be legal consequences. So far, we have not seen any court action or documented effort by Eximbank to recover such a loan through legal means.”
He argued that the absence of a lawsuit or public recovery process raises questions about the authenticity of the allegations, and called for a more balanced conversation around the issue.
